Summary …
Pearl considered herself a Windsor girl, Windsor being the place she was brought up and schooled. Her parents ran a Jewellers/Pawn Brokers shop in Peascod Street,
the premises also serving as the family home. Pearl was indeed born within sound and sight of the Horlicks factory in nearby Slough.
Pearl met Ken whilst walking with her sister Phylis and her two babies in a pram and the family dogs on The Brocas (Eaton side of the River Thames in Windsor) when
the dogs' leads became entangled in the pram. Ever the “Champ” Ken went to the rescue - the rest is history, part of which is me, the author here!
As soon as Ken's post WWII National service ended Pearl and Ken married and moved to (Caversham) Reading, Ken's then hometown. A family (me, the author) was
soon enroute starting Pearl on a log career of motherhood. Siblings soon joined me. Ken's Fire Brigade career saw them move to Newbury in 1961 and I
believe this is the place they most enjoyed living - it was Newbury which saw them embark and succeed in their passion of dancing. More Fire Brigade career moves
saw my parents then move to Windsor and then Maidenhead where they lived until Pearl passed away.
To me my parents were a lovely married couple as well as wonderful parents. They lived their lives as examples and were ahead of their times treating everyone
as equal no matter their past, status, creed, colour, or genda - they just liked nice people. I, and my siblings, were indeed very lucky kids and then people!
Pearl had five (I think) siblings: Phylis, Mary, Gordon, Ronald, and Bob (Robert).
